If you are really lucky, at some point in your youth, you will connect with people who remain your friends for life. As it happens, I'm really lucky! I am blessed with several dear friends who went to Furman University in Greenville, SC the same time I did. Just a few years...er, decades...ago! In particular, I am singling out two of these friends this week because, as it turns out, they love gardening and are big fans of Park Seed Company and Wayside Gardens.
First, let me introduce you to Robert Lindsey. Back in our Furman days, I knew Robert as Riff, and we met while volunteering at the campus radio station, then known as WFRN. I admired him then, and now, as a voracious reader, deep thinker, and outrageous wit. I never knew him to be a gardener in those days, but when we reconnected many years after graduation, he proudly gave me a tour of a thoroughly impressive vegetable garden in his backyard.
Robert was delighted when I started working at Park Seed. Turns out that he and his lovely wife Betty frequently drive down to Greenwood from Simpsonville to attend our annual Flower Day. And I do believe some of the produce in his massive garden can be traced back to seeds from us--like these Park's Whopper Tomatoes.
Robert was kind enough to provide a link to his garden site for this year, so please visit his site to see the rest of his pictures. As for me, I'm hoping that he'll have more squash than he can eat this year, and that he'll take pity on his horticulturally challenged old friend and send a few my way. I always say, if you can't cultivate a garden, cultivate some gardeners. At a minimum, you might get a basket of zucchini or two...!
You don't have to be my old college friend to get your garden pictures and stories into Park Seed Memories. Just send me an email at ckuhl@parkseed.com and attach some pictures of what's growing in your garden!
